Environmental Health Officer - Food Safety

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Welwyn garden city, Hybrid - office-based 2-3 days per week

Training: Office-based training required, schedule to be confirmed by the manager

Rate: Negotiable

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer with strong food safety and enforcement experience to join our service.

Key Requirements

  • BSc/MSc Degree in Environmental Health approved by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, or CIEH/IEHO Diploma in Environmental Health.
  • Higher Certificate in Food Control awarded by the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or Scottish Food Safety Officer Registration Board (SFSORB).
  • Experience in food safety and health and safety work, including taking enforcement cases in difficult or high-risk situations.
  • Experience using a broad range of enforcement options.
  • Strong understanding of EC and national food hygiene legislation, including the Food Law Code of Practice and Practice Guidance.
  • Ability to conduct thorough food safety inspections across a range of food businesses.
  • Competent in identifying non-compliances, food safety risks and poor practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Accurate and thorough record keeping.

Additional Requirements

Current driving licence and access to a vehicle with relevant insurance.

Willingness to undertake monitoring visits outside standard working hours.
