Estimator - Piling / Geotechnical - SL47860
Location: Basingstoke
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance + Benefits

Estimator required to join a growing specialist Civil Engineering and Geotechnical contractor, delivering piling, ground engineering, earthworks and associated civil engineering projects across the UK. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured and prospective projects, the company is looking to appoint an Estimator to support the preparation of tenders and pricing submissions.

This position would suit an Estimator with several years' experience within piling, geotechnical engineering, ground engineering or earthworks who is looking to develop their career within a specialist contractor.

The company is not necessarily seeking a Senior Estimator. Of greater importance is a practical understanding of the industry, construction techniques and rates, alongside the ability to put together accurate tenders and communicate effectively with clients.

• Review tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and associated documentation
• Prepare estimates and tender submissions for piling, geotechnical, earthworks and associated civil engineering packages
• Build up rates for labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages
• Work within established estimating parameters while developing a strong understanding of project-specific risks and opportunities
• Understand proposed construction techniques and ensure these are appropriately reflected within pricing
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations
• Prepare tender documentation and commercial information for submission
• Respond to technical and commercial queries throughout the tender process
• Liaise directly with clients regarding proposed schemes and tender submissions
• Attend occasional client meetings, including meetings at client offices in London
• Work closely with the operational and commercial teams to ensure tenders reflect realistic delivery methods and costs
• Assist with tender handovers following successful project awards
• Develop technical and commercial knowledge with the opportunity to progress within the estimating function

• Previous estimating experience within piling, geotechnical engineering, ground engineering, earthworks or specialist civil engineering
• Ideally circa 4+ years' industry experience, although experience and technical ability will be considered on an individual basis
• Understanding of construction rates, plant, labour and materials
• Knowledge of piling / geotechnical construction techniques
• Able to interpret drawings, specifications and tender information
• Commercially aware with good numerical and analytical skills
• Confident putting together tender submissions and responding to client queries
• Approachable and comfortable dealing directly with clients
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Keen to learn and progress within a growing specialist contractor
• Full UK driving licence
