Reconciliations Strategy Lead

Job Description

We are currently mobilising a large-scale, multi-year transformation programme to rebuild the front-to-back reconciliations function for a leading global Tier-1 investment bank. We are establishing a foundational leadership team responsible for building and scaling this modern function from the ground up, including setting the overall programme strategy, defining the target architecture, and establishing a future-proof Target Operating Model (TOM).

We are seeking a highly competent and drive-focused Manager to lead core delivery streams within this flagship programme. In this role, you will sit at the crucial intersection of technology, business architecture, and post-trade operations, driving strategic alignment across front-office trading platforms, middle-office operations, back-office sub-ledgers, and general ledger ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programme Strategy & Delivery Leadership: Lead key workstreams in mobilising and executing the front-to-back reconciliations rebuild, delivering structured strategic plans, project timelines, and executive deliverables.

  • Target Operating Model (TOM) Design: Help define and implement a global operational framework, establishing standardized exception management workflows, global governance structures, SLAs, and operational KPI dashboards.

  • Business & Target Architecture: Map complex trade, cash, position, and ledger data flows across global banking systems. Design modern architectural patterns that streamline matching, reduce false-positive breaks, and eliminate manual interventions.

  • Technology Strategy & Modernisation: Collaborate with enterprise architecture and vendor platforms (e.g., SmartStream TLM, Duco, AutoRek, Gresham) alongside cloud-native streaming and API architectures to modernise legacy reconciliation engines.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership: Act as a trusted advisor to senior executive stakeholders across Risk, Operations, Finance, and IT divisions, translating complex technical architectures into actionable operational roadmaps.

  • Team Capability Building: Mentor and direct junior consultants, business analysts, and functional architects to scale project delivery capability.

Required Capabilities & Qualifications

Core Qualifications:

  • Consulting / Delivery Track Record: Proven experience as a Manager or Senior Consultant within top-tier management consultancies, technology services firms, or lead delivery roles within Tier-1 Global Investment/Wholesale Banking institutions.

  • Domain Expertise: Deep domain knowledge of capital markets trade lifecycle, front-to-back post-trade operations, trade matching, position recs, cash/nostro recs, inventory, and general ledger reconciliation.

  • Business Architecture & Data Flows: Hands-on experience mapping end-to-end data flows, data lineage, and integration patterns across front-office (e.g., Murex, Calypso), middle-office, and sub-ledger systems.

  • Technology Architecture Strategy: Practical knowledge of enterprise reconciliation matching engines, modern data architecture patterns (APIs, real-time streaming/Kafka, data mesh), and exception management automation.

  • Stakeholder Management: Outstanding communication, facilitation, and executive presence with a demonstrated ability to drive consensus across matrixed global teams.

Preferred / Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks impacting financial reconciliations (e.g., BCBS 239, EMIR, MiFIR, CSDR).

  • Hands-on familiarity with reconciliation tools such as SmartStream TLM, Duco, Gresham Clareti, or AutoRek.

  • Experience with AI/ML-driven automated exception management or smart workflow orchestration engines.
